The end of August promises to be… stormy. This week, few departments are expected to escape lightning and thunder. From Monday, part of France is affected by a risk of violent storms, with, on the menu, hail and gusts of wind (among others).

“Monday afternoon, the storms approach the Aquitaine facade between 4 and 6 p.m. where they are accompanied by heavy showers and a blow of Galerne on the Basque coast at nearly 100 km / h. Inland, the gusts reach 80 to 90 km / h locally”, notes the Weather Channel.

The following violent phenomena could occur in the regions concerned, warns the site:

This morning, Météo France placed 41 departments on yellow vigilance for the risk of thunderstorms.

Last Thursday, already, a “coup de galerne” had hit the South-West of France; In a few minutes, the temperatures, however scorching, had dropped to 15°C.

This meteorological phenomenon, frequent in the departments located south of the Garonne, “consists of the sudden deterioration of atmospheric conditions with a marked drop in temperatures as well as a change of sector – to the northwest – and a sudden strengthening of the wind ( sometimes over 100 km/h). All this is accompanied by clouds and sometimes heavy rains”, notes Météo Contact. In question: a small “cold front” coming from the Bay of Biscay, specifies the site.
