An agreement in principle has been reached on the renewal of the collective agreement between the management of the glass manufacturer Owens Illinois, in Montreal, and the Steelworkers union.

The Steelworkers union, affiliated with the FTQ, made the announcement on Wednesday.

Some 330 union members working in this factory in the Pointe-Saint-Charles district of Montreal have been on strike there since May 10. The parties had entered a conciliation phase.

The union members will meet in assembly next Sunday to decide on this agreement in principle.

For the moment, the Steelworkers union did not want to reveal the content of the agreement in principle, preferring to keep the scoop for its members, as is usually the case in such circumstances.

The dispute was mainly about salary increases.

The Steelworkers union said the strike will continue until the vote is held and that the picket lines near the glass plant will be maintained.
