Postponed during the confinement, the production of the piece Salle de nouvelles will finally be presented in Montreal in September. Lee Hall’s adaptation (from the film Network) is directed by Marie-Josée Bastien. The latter is also artistic director of the Théâtre Level Parking in Quebec, which co-produces the show with the Trident and Duceppe. Denis Bernard plays the role of Howard Beale in an imposing cast of 12 actors, based in both Quebec and Montreal.

Critically acclaimed in both Quebec and Montreal, Run de lait, this documentary theater piece that deals with psychological distress among producers, is by Justin Laramée. This show “upsets, shocks and denies,” wrote Stéphanie Morin last November. It is being revived this fall on tour in Quebec, and will make a stop at the Théâtre Jean-Duceppe, for only five performances.

After L’orangeraie, Coup de vieux marks a new and (long-awaited) collaboration between director Claude Poissant and author Larry Tremblay. This Trident and Center du Théâtre d’Aujourd’hui co-production features six performers from Montreal and Quebec: Sylvie Drapeau, Jacques Girard, Linda Sorgini, Jacques Leblanc, Marie Gignac and Thomas Boudreault-Côté.

Created at Le Diamant with Robert Lepage in September 2021, Courville will officially open the Théâtre du Nouveau Monde season. Quebec artist Olivier Normand takes over the main role, created by Lepage. He is surrounded by a dozen puppets on stage, to tell the story of adolescent torments. Lepage was inspired by the traditional Japanese art of bunraku in this show produced by Ex Machina.

The talented Alexandre Fecteau directs the theatrical adaptation (signed Véronique Côté) of Jonas Gardell’s bestselling novel. Never wipe tears without gloves recalls the beginning of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the 1980s. And its consequences on the life of a gang of gay men in Sweden, around the young Rasmus, played by Olivier Arteau . A touching portrait of the ravages of this disease at the time.

The most recent creation by Robert Lepage, as part of the centenary of the birth of the painter Jean Paul Riopelle, finally arrives in Quebec. As Lepage’s shows evolve over time, it will be interesting to go see the play again at Le Diamant (or to discover it) to admire the magic and ingenuity of the director, who has given himself the mission here of lift the veil on an artist shrouded in an aura of mystery. A co-production of Duceppe and Ex Machina.

In March 2022, Olivier Arteau completed his creation residency at the Théâtre d’Aujourd’hui with this amusingly titled play, featuring longtime friends of the millennial generation in Quebec. They are going to gather in an apartment for Ariel’s (Ariel Charest) bachelor party. All delusions are allowed. In revival in May 2024 at Périscope, in Quebec. The text and the staging are by Olivier Arteau. Pissing standing up without lifting your skirt is produced by the Kata Theater in co-distribution with the Center du Théâtre d’Aujourd’hui.

David Paquet’s play is freely inspired by the work of the German Frank Wedekind, which addresses the awakening of sexuality in a group of adolescents. Olivier Arteau’s staging energizes the classic to adapt it to the times. It features 10 performers, including Gabriel Lemire and Lé Aubin.

This first solo show by Michel-Maxime Legault, a graduate of the Conservatoire de Québec, will be directed by Marie-Thérèse Fortin. In this first text, the actor discusses his family background and rural life. Co-produced by the Trident, the Grand Théâtre de Québec, the Théâtre de la Marée Haute and the Théâtre du Tandem de Rouyn-Noranda, the show illustrates Olivier Arteau’s desire to decentralize creation across the province.
