Carson Brière, son of Daniel Brière, was “removed” from the Mercyhurst University hockey team in Pennsylvania.
The educational institution made the announcement in a terse statement on Monday evening, adding “not being able to comment on the subject further”.
This situation comes just weeks after a video showing Brière nonchalantly swinging an unoccupied wheelchair down the stairs of a nightclub made the rounds on the web. The story caused a stir. On Twitter, the woman who posted the video said the chair was there because its owner had to go downstairs to access the bar’s bathroom.
Brière, 23, faces charges of mischief and misconduct for these actions. The day the video was published, Mercyhurst University quickly announced that it had opened an investigation into the event. The young man had also been suspended.
Daniel Brière, ex-NHL player and new general manager of the Philadelphia Flyers, apologized on behalf of his son in the days following the events. He said he was “shocked” upon seeing the video, calling it “inexcusable.” “Carson is sorry and accepts full responsibility for his behavior,” he added.
His son, more succinctly, said he was “deeply sorry for [his] behavior”. “There is no excuse for my actions and I will do everything I can to redeem myself from this serious lapse in judgment. »
This is not the first time that Brière has been expelled from a hockey program. In November 2019, Arizona State University fired him “due to a violation of team rules,” a staffer told the Walter Cronkite Sports Network at the time.
