(Columbus) The Columbus Blue Jackets placed defenseman Zach Werenski on the injured list Friday.

The team expects him to miss a week or two with a quadriceps contusion.

Werenski suffered knee-to-knee contact from Philadelphia Flyers’ Garnet Hathaway on Thursday. Hathaway was also fined US$5,000 for his actions.

Aged 26, Werenski played his first match since tearing the labrum in his right shoulder on November 10.

To replace him in the lineup, the Jackets recalled 19-year-old rookie David Jiricek.
