Unifor reaches tentative agreement with Ford

(Toronto) The Unifor union says it has reached a tentative agreement with Ford Motor that could prevent workers from going on strike.

The union specifies that the proposed contract will soon be submitted to members for a vote.

Negotiations with Ford should help set expectations for contracts workers will get from other major automakers, General Motors and Stellantis

The tentative agreement with Ford comes as U.S. auto workers continue to strike against Ford, as well as at General Motors and Stellantis factories.

Auto workers in the United States are demanding wage increases of more than 40%, while Unifor has not released a figure, saying only that it wants to see significant increases.

Besides higher wages, Unifor emphasizes that its other key priorities are pensions, as well as issues related to job security and the transition to electric vehicles.
