Quebec multidisciplinary artist Manon Labrecque died at the end of last August.

According to her obituary, she was “taken away in her sleep before the full moon at the end of August” (i.e. the 31st), at the age of 58.

A figurehead of video and contemporary art, in Quebec as in Canada, Labrecque had been established in Montreal since 1985, where she began her artistic practice. Born in 1965 in Saint-Évariste-de-Forsyth, the artist made her place in the metropolis as an essential visual arts creator in the province.

A graduate in contemporary dance and visual arts, Manon Labrecque has often been rewarded for her work throughout her prolific career.

Choreographer and video maker, the artist paid particular attention to the relationships between the body and the exterior. She practiced primarily through video, performance and installations.

Manon Labrecque leaves to mourn her niece, her mother, her sisters and brothers, as well as many people who knew her.
