Rebecca Marino will not have had the hoped-for career at the National Bank Open. The Canadian lost in two sets of 6-3 and 6-1 in front of the Briton Katie Boulter, Monday evening, in her duel of the first round.

In a rushed 65-minute game, Marino was never able to come out on top. She was broken four times and never returned the favor to her opponent.

In a short post-match press conference, around 11 p.m., Marino spoke about the two qualifying matches played by Boulter. These made “a big difference,” according to the Torontonian.

“She definitely knew what to expect from those lands,” she noted. […] She is having a good season so far, so she is a big challenge as an opponent. She played a very good game today. »

Marino admitted to being disappointed with her performance on serve, she who normally excels in this aspect of the game.

“I saw the stats and I wasn’t happy. I had a little difficulty because of the wind, but that’s no excuse. This is something I will have to adjust. »

This is where Marino’s career in Montreal ends. As for Katie Boulter, she will face sixth-seeded Coco Gauff in the second round.
