The affected sign is on the Großer Montiggler See. A picture shows: The German names on the signpost were crossed out and the Italian ones were painted over with black paint. The region is bilingual, as “Merkur” reports.
The person or people responsible also wrote “Crucchi di merda” (German: “Screw Krauts”) on the sign. According to “Merkur” it is not known whether locals or tourists are responsible.
“It’s not the first time something like this has happened, and unfortunately it probably won’t be the last either. “Now there is no respect anymore, not even for the mountains,” Carlo Alberto Zanella is quoted by “il Dolomiti”. He is president of the South Tyrolean Alpine Association. The signpost belongs to the Eppan Tourism Association.
