Supermarket: the 6 products whose price will drop in July

spot_img

Prices are finally down. After a significant increase in consumer prices since January 2023, supermarkets will start to display more affordable prices on certain food products. Indeed, in June 2023, inflation starts to slow down. On June 30, INSEE estimated that the latter stood at 4.5% between June 2022 and June 2023, against 5.1% in May.

Nevertheless, the prices of many products continued to rise, especially those of the major brands. To deal with it, Bruno Le Maire, Minister of the Economy, had promised the reduction of hundreds of foodstuffs from July. This decision stems from the promise of new negotiations between major food manufacturers and distributors. For now, no provider offers a concrete plan. Nevertheless, the government reaffirmed its promise of lower prices.

On June 28, 2023, Olivia Grégoire, Minister Delegate for Trade, spoke about a first drop in food products during current government questions in the Senate. She then announced that this project will apply “from July 1”, according to the transcription of franceinfo. “A number of products will go down visibly,” she continued. What foods are affected? Check it out in our slideshow below.

However, the price cuts do not include major brands or certain foods that are among the most inflationary. Indeed, Olivia Grégoire affirmed that the negotiations between distributors and large industrialists are “in progress”, but that “the prices of raw materials continue to be high”. Thus, “sugar, pork, charcuterie” are not likely to be affected by lower tariffs. To find out which products are affected by this drop, see our slideshow below.
