(Brantford) Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced that manufacturer Mitsui High-tec is investing more than $100 million to expand its manufacturing operations in southwestern Ontario, which produce a component needed for electric vehicles.

Ford says the investment in the plant in Brantford, Ontario, will be used to make motor cores, which are used to make the motor that powers electric vehicles.

He said the company will open a new factory and create more than 100 jobs.

The province says Mitsui-High-tec is the only company in Canada that creates basic engine parts for electric and hybrid vehicles.

Premier Ford said the province is investing $3.1 million for the expansion.

This investment is the latest in the province’s efforts to become a leader in electric vehicle manufacturing.
