Supermarket: 5 brands targeted for “misleading” packaging

Two associations announced this Tuesday, June 27, to have put five major brands on notice. These signs would not respect the dimensions of the packaging on the shelves in French supermarkets. This is why these organizations are asking them to change the packaging of the products they market.

“With this formal notice, we are giving these five brands 30 days to withdraw their products from the market and undertake to no longer market products full of emptiness”, denounce the associations in a press release relayed by La Croix. If the brands do not react, Foodwatch, an association for the defense of consumers and Zero Waste, an organization committed to the fight against waste, will not deprive themselves and “will take legal action”.

“Exceeded” by the widely noticed “aberrations”, the two associations have joined forces to put these five major French industrial groups on notice. The latter have a period of thirty days before a potential legal action. Through this, the organizations wish to “end the impunity of industrialists”.

The associations, which have been calling out since 2020 on this subject, designate practices which are “likely to mislead the consumer about the actual quantity of food contained in the package and go against the urgent efforts that manufacturers must make to reduce the impact of their production on the environment and their waste”.

In addition, consumer lawyers wish to “challenge these brands through a petition, but also open the door to dialogue with these brands and exchange with the public authorities so that they force manufacturers to change their practices”, as explained Audrey Morice, campaign manager at Foodwatch.

Discover now below, the five major brands pinned by Foodwatch and Zero Waste for commercial practices deemed misleading.
