Sparkling, funny and refreshing, Jarry is a unique personality in the French audiovisual landscape. Born in Angers on August 5, 1977, the 45-year-old comedian is a face now well known to viewers. But this Tuesday, May 2, 2023, it is in a whole new light that his fans will be able to discover it.

He will indeed be at the center of attention in the new episode of Rendez-vous in unknown land broadcast at 9:10 p.m. on France 2. In this famous program, the artist discovers Greenland, welcomed by the Inughuit people. It is therefore in the great cold, 1,300 kilometers from the North Pole, that Jarry will live this adventure.

If he was delighted to participate in this initiation to travel, the artist nevertheless showed some reservations before leaving since he was going to be confronted head-on with his fear of the unknown. “Everyone tells you it’s a wonderful trip but I was very afraid of the unknown. Before leaving, I really had no information. It was quite complicated to live for me who controls everything in my career and in my life.”, he revealed at a press conference, as reported by Pure Media.

But one thing in particular scared him, not being accepted as he is. “I was afraid of going to a place where people weren’t going to accept me. I didn’t want to play a role. I had warned the production that I didn’t want to hide the fact that I I was gay, that I had children, that I was a very sensitive person, I didn’t want to say ‘it’s great what you’re doing’, so emotionally I didn’t mean it. meeting had to be done on both sides. I really wanted to live a real adventure, not just a television show. I really wanted them to discover Jarry”, he detailed.

Before participating in Rendezvous in Unknown Land, Jarry faced hatred and homophobia on numerous occasions, to the point of receiving death threats.

With fame comes hate. But for an openly homosexual personality such as Jarry, this is very often increased tenfold and can be particularly violent. In August 2021, the comedian had, for example, shared in his story a message received by a detractor accompanied by the phrase “thank you for reporting this guy who is threatening death”. Deeply homophobic, he even called for him to be “burned alive”.

“I meet people who are just interested in my sexuality, not in my person. It’s hard to think that every day we preach living together and that there are still people who are attached to small differences and that these small differences are enough for them to want you to be out of this world. It’s very violent. When you are confronted with it, it is something that marks you.” he told the microphone of Europe 1 in 2018.

Faced with these difficult trials, Jarry can however count on the support of his mother, with whom he shares an unbreakable bond.

“She’s the woman I love the most in the world and above all, she’s the one who always protected me without ever telling me. It’s crazy, you just have to grow up and then you realize what people do for us,” he told franceinfo about his mother.

This strong bond goes back to the birth of Jarry, which occurred in a very particular context since he was born prematurely on August 5, 1977 when his mother, eight months pregnant, had just been the victim of a car accident with a driver to say the least rude.
