Taxes 2023: the mail you will receive from this Monday, April 3

Like every year, all French people fill out this famous tax return. Today, you can complete it directly online on the impots.gouv.fr website in your personal space. This space will be available from April 13, as stated by Capital. However, it will still be possible to complete this declaration in hard copy. Indeed, from April 3, Bercy sends the declaration forms by mail to all taxpayers who cannot fill it out online. These shipments will be made until April 27th.

Who are the taxpayers concerned by the mailing of this declaration? These include elderly people who do not master the Internet, homes located in white areas, that is to say, a territory that is not covered by an Internet network, or even people with personal difficulties. The General Directorate of Public Finance (DGFiP) then announced that “if you feel that you are unable to do so, you can continue to use a paper declaration”. This therefore concerns all persons wishing to complete it in paper format.

This declaration is already pre-filled. In particular, we find the main income and expenses of the taxpayer. However, be careful with this information already noted, it may be incorrect. You can then correct it and complete it with missing data such as property income or a new address, for example. You must then sign it before sending it back to the public finance center to which your city is attached.

Others will receive an automatic tax return corresponding to a simple form already presenting all the information necessary for a so-called “simple” tax situation, recalls Jean-Victor Semeraro, journalist for Capital. If you receive this automatic version and all the data is correct, you do not have to send it back. Indeed, it is already considered validated by Bercy. If you correct it, you must effectively send it back.

For any sending, of an automatic declaration or not, the deadline is Monday May 22 at midnight. In the event of a delay of a few days, a 10% increase in your income tax will be charged. For a longer delay, you risk being sent a formal notice. Capital even reports that it may be 40% “when the declaration has not been filed within 30 days of receipt of a formal notice”.

Remember to send it back before May 22, 2023 if you decide to complete it by hand.
