One payment every two weeks. If you are an employee, your pay is paid at the end of each month into your bank account, but is this really the most advantageous for you? Generally, this salary does not last long, between the rent or the loan to be repaid, the charges to be paid, the shopping to be done… It dwindles like a trickle and, the following month, barely started, much more.

Should you be paid every two weeks to be better off financially? According to a study by OpinionWay for Rosaly*, published in February 2022, 37% of French people would like a weekly or fortnightly payment of their salary. As La Dépêche explains, the CEO of the Rosaly application believes that it is a way for employees to better manage their income and thus avoid “bank overdrafts and consumer loans”.

In France, you can receive a deposit on your salary if your request is made on the 15th of the month and if this first payment does not exceed half of your pay. While this possibility is very present in Anglo-Saxon countries, particularly in Australia and the United Kingdom, this is not the case in France. Is it really worth it? Questioned by Ouest-France, the economist of the OFCE (French Observatory of Economic Conditions) Mathieu Plane explains that “it does not change the amount paid, it is simply a question of different methods of remuneration”, stressing that it there is “no effect on purchasing power”.

In reality, for a household that is not in the red at the end of the month, the measure is of no interest. Little interest and above all a lot of work for companies, adds the economist, who recalls that editing a payslip requires time and money for professionals. It is therefore not tomorrow the day before that this change will happen for French workers…
