Livret A, LEP, LDDS… The new savings book rates for 2023 revealed

Savings book rates will increase on February 1, 2023, it’s no longer a secret: François Villeroy de Galhau, Governor of the Banque de France, confirmed this last week.

It is he who is responsible for steering twice a year, the increase in the Livret A and satellite offers such as the popular savings account (LEP), the sustainable and solidarity development booklet (LDDS) or the housing savings account. (CEL). For the moment, no rate has been revealed, but we can already guess what the increases will be.

The Livret A passbook rate is set according to the half-yearly average of monthly inflation excluding tobacco, as well as the half-yearly average of the €ster interbank rate.

The INSSE indicated that inflation would reach 6.8% in December, which would increase the second half of the year by 6.217%. As for the €ster, according to figures from the European Central Bank, its six-month average reached 0.349%, a figure that has risen sharply since the change in monetary policy by the ECB at the end of July.

We can therefore calculate a rate for the Livret A of 3.283% or 3.30% rounded, against 2% currently. A rate that would be unprecedented since January 2009. The LDDS would follow with the same rate.

But the government still has the possibility of a boost that would not be calculated according to the rules of arithmetic. Bruno the mayor could thus support the purchasing power of the 55 million French people who have a Livret A and raise his remuneration to 3.50%. The answer is expected by mid-January.

In the meantime, here are the probable rates for regulated savings accounts in 2023.
