Taxes: what you absolutely must do before Wednesday

Do you have doubts about your 2022 tax return? You have a few days left to correct your errors: “The online tax return correction service is open from Wednesday August 3 to Wednesday December 14 at 11:59 p.m.”, indicates the site impots.gouv.fr in its various questions.

If you have validated your declaration online, it is possible to change almost all the boxes checked last spring. They can all be modified, except for marital status or change of address, which require another section.

Last year, 600,000 taxpayers corrected their declaration according to the tax department (DGFip), there were 800,000 in 2020 and 300,000 via a form in 2019. Please note, this tool is reserved for “users who declared their income online ( …) or who have been taxed according to the device of the automatic declaration”, underlines the tax administration. This therefore excludes from this online service those who declared on paper, and those who declared via a third party (chartered accountant, etc.).

Those who have an interest in making a change in declaration are those who have made a mistake about the amount of expenses and resources, but also those who have omitted to declare a tax benefit: donations to associations, political or union contributions, accommodation costs for elderly people, extracurricular fees, tuition fees, etc.

After the deadline of December 14 at 11:59 p.m., you have two options left. First of all go to the secure messaging system of impots.gouv.fr and “report an error on the calculation of my tax”. Another possibility is to file an amending declaration on paper with your tax office.

In any case, by email or paper, you have two years to make a change to your declaration. That is, for the year 2022, a date postponed until December 31, 2024.

Connect to your online space on impots.gouv.fr and a blue button appears “Access the online correction”. You can then modify the false amounts and before signing a summary screen shows you the elements that you have entered or confirmed.

Finally, after validation, an email confirming the registration of the correction will be sent to you. You can also find the rectifying declaration in PDF on the “Documents” tab of your dashboard on the tax website.
