Electricity is essential for heating, lighting, cooking… However, over the past year, its price has soared, from 85 euros the wholesale price of a megawatt hour last year to more than 1,000 euros for 2023, indicates Le Parisien.

Although a tariff shield has been put in place by the government for the year 2022, in order to cap the price increase at 4%, then at 15% for 2023, this is not eternal and it does not does not prevent, de facto, an increase – even “measured” – of the bill for households.

For his part, Bruno Le Maire, the Minister of the Economy, assured that the increase in electricity prices will be “contained”.

To cope with this galloping inflation which is affecting the homes of French men and women, the Minister also added: “for the most modest households, there will be energy checks which will help those who are most in difficulty to pay their energy bills.

In short, inflation should not result in “economic brutality” but rather be “gentle and bearable”…

At the onset of winter, electricity consumption may, in any case, increase in homes. Consequence: the note is likely to be particularly salty for residents of France.
