A historic day that will remain etched forever in the memory. This September 19, 2022 took place the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, who died at the age of 96, on September 8. This Monday at 10 a.m., the ceremony began at Westminster Abbey, an emblematic place for the mother of King Charles III who was crowned there on June 2, 1953.

In Westminster Abbey, many guests were expected. The President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, and his wife Brigitte Macron, took their places there, as did other heads of state. Pulled by sailors, the coffin of the former sovereign, set with her crown and her scepter, entered Westminster Abbey. King Charles III and his siblings Anne, Andrew and Edward made their entrance, followed closely by the new Prince of Wales William, his son George as well as his daughter Charlotte and his wife Kate Middleton. Behind him stood his brother, Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle.

After a moving ceremony, a long procession took place to Wellington’s Arch. The procession passed in front of Buckingham Palace where all the staff of the former sovereign stood, no less than 470 employees. Subsequently, the coffin of the former sovereign was placed in a royal hearse in order to leave London for Windsor Castle.

Around 4 p.m., the remains of Elizabeth II entered Windsor during which a funeral procession took place until it reached St. George’s Chapel. A final private ceremony took place during which no camera could have access. The queen finally reached the crypt of the chapel where the remains of her parents and the ashes of her sister Margaret are. Her husband Prince Philip, who is currently resting in the royal vault, will join her later.
