Livret A: its rate will double in August

It was an anticipated announcement. During an interview with Le Parisien on July 14, 2022, Bruno Le Maire, Minister of the Economy, confirmed the good news. The Livret A rate, currently at 1%, will double from 1 August. “On the Livret A, as on the Livret d’épargne populaire (LEP), we have chosen to follow the recommendations of the Governor of the Banque de France. Indeed, an increase had already been confirmed by the Governor of the Banque de France, François Villeroy de Galhau. Revalued twice a year to adapt to the level of rising prices, the Livret A will therefore drop to 2%, a first in ten years. This had already doubled last February, from 0.5% to 1%. The rise in prices being very significant due to inflation, this revaluation was eagerly awaited. This is excellent news for the French who have been facing this very significant inflation for several weeks already. However, the Livret A rate remains lower than this inflation measured at 5.8% in June 2022 by INSEE.

In addition, the rate of LEP, which must be opened now, will also increase. It will increase from 2.2% to 4.6%, because it is “the most effective investment to protect against inflation” according to the Minister of Economy. Even if these increases will not be enough to cope with inflation, they can give a boost to households that are suffering from it. Concretely, a saver with 10,000 euros on the Livret A, will receive a remuneration of 200 euros in a full year, against 100 euros currently. An interesting increase which should cause new payments in the coming days. An attractive upgrade for holders of Livret A, but also for holders of the Sustainable and Solidarity Development Booklet. The increase in the Livret A rate leads to that of the LDDS at the same level, as confirmed by Capital.

The Livret A rate will double on August 1. It will drop to 2%, its highest level since 2012. It offers 3 advantages: Capital guaranteed and can be withdrawn at any time, no tax. https://t.co/VL0qIJWwoG
