Cherries: is it better to buy them at the market or in supermarkets?

As inflation climbs and impacts almost all everyday products, the fruits seem to be at their best. The years 2020 and 2021 had been marked by major episodes of frost. This had the effect of drastically reducing the production of fruits and vegetables for the summer.

The French therefore found themselves faced with a reduced supply, resulting in a rise in prices. This year, the spring frost episode should only have a very limited effect.

“Strawberries, cherries, but also nectarines or peaches, not only will the quantities be there, but the heat wave guarantees us sweet products”, declared Laurent Grandin, president of Interfel, in the columns of Le Parisien.

The cherry should be in abundance on the shelves, as the high season began a short time ago. However, a large disparity in prices can still be observed from one distributor to another.

Our colleagues from Le Parisien have compared the price of cherries from France between an Aldi supermarket located in the 18th arrondissement of the capital, the Ornano market, also in the 18th, and an Intermarché store in the 17th arrondissement.

In the latter, the study reveals that cherries sell for 9.98 euros per kilo. At Aldi, this product is sold one euro cheaper. The biggest difference is thus established with the market in which the cherries were sold at 5.80 euros per kilo.

So, if you want to give yourself your annual cherry fix, the best thing is to go to the market. Be careful though, because these places can also display many disparities in quality and price between different merchants. It is therefore better to remain attentive.
