A Wisconsin musher won his fourth John Beargrease Dog Marathon title with a large margin.

Ryan Anderson was able to finish the 300-mile sleddog race in northeastern Minnesota with a one-hour advantage

Anderson, from Cushing in Wisconsin, won the race in 2015, 2015, and 2017. He joins Nathan Schroeder, Jamie Nelson, and Jamie Nelson as four-time winners.

Anderson stated that while I don’t get excited or show too much emotion, I am super happy with what I have accomplished. Anderson said, “I am prouder of the confidence the dog team now has in moving forward with them. They believe they can do anything.

Around a dozen mushers dropped out of Tuesday’s race, about half of the field of competitors. Officials used the term “punchy” for the snow conditions on the North Shore, comparing it to running on mashed potatoes. According to the Star Tribune, some mushers were concerned about their dogs’ health because of the warm weather.

The return of spectators to the trail marked this year’s race. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, they were not permitted to cheer on teams last year.
Beargrease is the 38th-oldest sled dog racing in the United States. Beargrease qualifies for the Iditarod in March, Alaska’s premier race for mushers.
