MINNEAPOLIS — 2 weeks following Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak declared his retirement, the team is substituting the veteran playcaller along with his son, Klint, multiple league sources confirmed to ESPN.

Klint Kubiak, 33, will assume the place his father held to the 2020 season. NFL Network has been the first to report that the younger Kubiak’s advertising to offensive coordinator after he coached Minnesota’s quarterbacks for the previous couple of decades.

Minnesota’s offensive team is place for the upcoming year with Andrew Janocko, who coached wide receivers last year, anticipated to eventually become the team’s quarterbacks coach, while Keenan McCardell, who coached wide receivers in Jacksonville from 2017 to 2020, will maintain the exact same place with the Vikings, according to league sources.

The long-expected marketing of Klint Kubiak to offensive coordinator supports Mike Zimmer’s fantasies to maintain continuity on offense after the Vikings finished 7-9 and didn’t reach the playoffs. Zimmer stated he believed Minnesota’s crime was the most volatile he’s needed in seven seasons with the Vikings and aimed toward needing to keep the exact same philosophy moving ahead.

“I really like the plot that we are running , I really like the broad zone crime, I really like the play-action moves,” Zimmer said in January. “All those items. A mentor said one time your crime should be exactly what your quarterback is greatest at. And that is exactly what I believe Kirk [Cousins] is greatest at. Those sort of things are making him really excellent. So to me, that’s truly important.”

Before joining his dad, offensive line coach/run game planner Rick Dennison and tight ends coach Brian Pariani at Minnesota at 2019, the younger Kubiak was an offensive assistant and quarterbacks coach in Denver by 2016 to 2018. He’s never called plays in the college or pro degree.

Nearing the conclusion of the employees for its 2021 season, the Vikings encouraged Ryan Ficken into special-teams planner a week. Ficken was formerly Minnesota’s helper special-teams trainer from 2013 to 2020.
