Zach Collaros fills the Blue Bombers’ third quarter position on the roster the Winnipeg squad released to the media ahead of Friday’s game against the Calgary Stampeders.
Dru Brown will act as the starter. Collaros suffered a neck injury against the Edmonton Elks in their 38-29 victory last Thursday.
Collaros, the Canadian League MVP for the past two seasons, was injured when tackled by defensive lineman Kony Ealy in the first half. Attempting to escape the pressure from the Elks player, Collaros was hit near the head as he fell to the ground after unleashing a pass.
That pass was intercepted by Loucheiz Purifoy, who returned it into the end zone to make it 22-0 Elks at the time.
Brown came on for Collaros and orchestrated the Bombers’ comeback by completing 17 of 24 passes for 304 yards, four touchdowns against an interception.
Collaros leads the CFL with 2,298 passing yards and 16 touchdowns.
The Bombers are tied for first in the West with the BC Lions with a 7-2 record.
