Vincent Cassel: who is his famous father Jean-Pierre, who died of cancer?

While Vincent Cassel is starring in Guillaume Canet’s new film, Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Empire, the actor was the guest of Audrey Crespo-Mara on his show Seven to eight, this Sunday January 29, 2023 .

The ex-husband of Monica Bellucci has agreed to confide in his intimate life, but also in his past. He is the son of a famous actor named Jean-Pierre Cassel. The latter had become known from the 1960s thanks to several films including The Lover of Five Days, The Prankster or The Games of Love. A great career that ended on April 19, 2007 when he was 74 years old.

Unlike some actors, Jean-Pierre Cassel never wanted his son to follow in his footsteps. “I don’t think you can direct your children in this kind of career, because it’s so uncertain. And it’s so frustrating and damaging. Especially if it doesn’t work”, declared Vincent Cassel and to continue : “I think that to send your children in this kind of direction, that would be rather criminal. I think that these are directions which one takes from the moment when one has a real passion”.

Suffering from cancer, Jean-Pierre Cassel was to play with his son in the film Mesrine. A feature film in which he will ultimately never play. “We had to do Mesrine, where Mesrine comes to see his father who is dying of cancer. And the story which is terrible, which shows a lot of the humor he had”, explained the husband of Tina Kunakey and to add “I knew he wasn’t going to last long. And I said to him: ‘But Dad, are you sure, when you get out of there, do you really want to go for a guy who dies in a hotel from cancer?’ He had answered me: ‘That, at least, I am sure to play it well'”.
