(Toronto) Brad Treliving made his first move as general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs by appointing former Arizona Coyotes star Shane Doan as special adviser.

Doan has spent his entire playing career with the Coyotes organization. His first season coincided with the final year of the Jets’ first incarnation in Winnipeg before they moved to Arizona at the end of the 1995-96 season.

Doan joined the management of the Coyotes in 2021.

The 46-year-old from Halkirk, Alta., Doan served as assistant general manager for Team Canada that won gold at the 2023 World Men’s Hockey Championship.

In his role, Doan will replace Jason Spezza, who left the team following the firing of former general manager Kyle Dubas in May.
