(Montreal) Bell Media announced on Friday that it will end the operation of the Vrak television channel as of October 1.
In a statement, the subsidiary of the Canadian telecommunications giant BCE cites two reasons for removing Vrak, which went on the air 23 years ago.
Bell Media first explains that the Canadian media industry is facing significant challenges and that the regulatory framework with which broadcasters must comply is outdated and does not take current challenges into account.
The company adds that the viewers are no longer enough.
Bell Media’s senior vice president, content and news, Karine Moses, says ending Vrak’s operations is not a decision the broadcaster wanted to make. She remembers that the specialty channel has left its mark on several generations of Quebec viewers.
Vrak will cease operations at midnight, October 1. Until the channel closes, viewers can finish listening to the current seasons of the series on the air.
