Reshuffle: are these two ministers suspended?

A disrupted schedule. President Emmanuel Macron, omnipresent in the media in recent weeks, called Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne to order following remarks intended for the National Rally. Less than a week after this controversy, the numbers have doubled. Indeed, according to Le Figaro, a quarrel between Gérald Darmanin, Minister of the Interior, and Gabriel Attal, Minister Delegate for Public Accounts, did not escape the executive.

Regarding their respective calendars, the two ministers are active on various important themes of Emmanuel Macron’s second five-year term. Gabriel Attal is working on a vast plan of struggle, supposed to save money and double the adjustments, with 2027 in sight. For his part, Gérald Darmanin is traveling to New Caledonia to advance on the future constitutional status of the archipelago. At the same time, it prepares the ground for the approach of the review of the immigration law.

Two of the big headliners of the government of this second five-year term led by Emmanuel Macron are doing their part. As part of the fight against social fraud, Gabriel Attal did not fail to react to his counterpart from the Interior. In question, the merger between the identity card and the vital card, announced this Tuesday, May 30.

This measure was quick to make Gérald Darmanin jump. Indeed, the latter was not informed of the implementation of this administrative change, making it possible to stem the “rentals” of vital cards, benefiting fraudsters from benefiting from free care. The two politicians quickly settled their disagreement. They spoke on a call while “there was starting to be a bit of a ‘flutter’”, as confided by the presidential entourage.

Natives of two opposing camps, some friction animated the two men, yet essential to the political life led by the Macron government. Strongly and frequently criticized by various opposition politicians, they have always emerged unscathed. But until when ?

With exchanged peaks, Attal and Darmanin know each other. The second had, during the failure of the regional elections, strongly criticized the functioning of the political party associating them: “within the majority, we should all learn from it. We would gain from humility”. Declaration to which the first retorted strongly: “humility concerns everyone”, as affirmed by Gabriel Attal on France Inter.

More recently, an opposition animated the two political representatives: the revision of state medical aid. The Minister of the Interior wanted to “reserve it for emergencies”, while his counterpart delegated to Public Accounts insisted on preferring to listen to “health professionals”. Good atmosphere.

Like Elisabeth Borne, the two ministers involved in various tensions each have the confidence of the Head of State. Despite everything, an opposition of style seems inevitable and definite. Gabriel Attal, in charge of the country’s budgetary balances, tries to heal the left wing while Gérald Darmanin, figurehead of the government right, ensures the support of his opponents from the Republicans and the National Rally. Hoping that these two do not have the first letter of their first name in common.
