(Toronto) Ramon Laureano drove in three runs, including two on a home run, as the Cleveland Guardians edged the Toronto Blue Jays 5-2 on Friday night.
Canadian Bo Naylor also helped the visitors by hitting a long ball in his first appearance at Rogers Center as the Blue Jays (70-59) suffered a third straight loss.
With the Blue Jays leading 1-0, following a solo slap from George Springer in the second inning, Naylor tied the game in third with his fifth homer of the campaign.
“All the things and the work leading up to this moment made it super special. To have the people I love the most here with me and to add a win, it’s a great night,” said Naylor, who was playing in front of several family members and friends.
The Blue Jays only got six balls for sure and only scored five runs in their losing streak. They remained a game and a half from the last place of the teams drafted in the American.
“We’ve got the guys in the locker room to do it,” Blue Jays starter Chris Bassitt (12-7) said. Sometimes there are multiple teams in the race, but they don’t have the guys to do it. We have them and we just have to do our job. »
Laureano added a two-run long ball for the Guardians (61-68), after two outs in the fourth inning, after Oscar Gonzalez hit the trails due to an infield hit.
Laureano extended the lead to 4-1 on a double down the right field line. He pushed Gonzalez to the plate, who had started the sixth inning with a double.
The Guardians’ four points came against Bassitt. He pitched for five and two-thirds innings, giving up seven hits and two walks, including one intentional to Jose Ramirez.
” I feel good. I just feel like I was bad,” observed Bassitt.
24-year-old Guardians rookie pitcher Tanner Bibee (10-3) ruled six innings, allowing two runs, six hits and one walk.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit his 18th long pitch of the season in the sixth inning. After that home run, the next seven Blue Jays batters were retired in order. Andres Gimenez took the opportunity to restore three-point priority to the Guardians with a solo four-goal shot in the eighth.
Guardians reliever Emmanuel Clase collected his 34th save when he struck out three of the Blue Jays’ four batters in the ninth inning.
