(Nashville) Juuse Saros made 23 saves Thursday to record his 21st career shutout in a 3-0 victory over the Seattle Kraken, Andrew Brunette’s first as head coach of the Nashville Predators.
General manager Barry Trotz also got his first win in his new role. Trotz was the Predators’ first coach, from 1998 to 2014, before stints at the helm of the Washington Capitals and New York Islanders.
Brunette is also a former Predator, having scored the club’s first ever goal in October 1998.
Colton Sissons, Gustav Nyquist and Juuso Parssinen scored the Predators’ goals.
Sissons opened the scoring midway through the second period. Nyquist scored his first goal with the Tennessee team by deflecting a puck past Philipp Grubauer in the third. Parssinen completed the score in an empty cage.
Grubauer finished the game with 32 saves.
Both teams started their season Tuesday with road losses. The Predators were defeated by the Lightning in Tampa, while the Kraken suffered the same fate at the hands of the reigning Stanley Cup champions, the Vegas Golden Knights.
The Kraken will now travel to St. Louis to face the Blues on Saturday. The same day, the Predators will face the Bruins in Boston.
