New York Jets | Season over for Aaron Rodgers

(New York) New York Jets star quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ season is officially over.

Rodgers suffered a complete torn Achilles tendon in his left leg, a person familiar with the diagnosis revealed.

A magnetic resonance imaging test Tuesday morning confirmed the severity of the injury, said the person, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the team has yet to confirm anything. Jets head coach Robert Saleh is scheduled to meet with members of the media via video conference later Tuesday.

The NFL Network was first to report the nature of Rodgers’ injury.

Rodgers was injured in the fourth period of the Jets game on Monday night, but the New York team still won 22-16 in overtime against the Buffalo Bills.

After the meeting, Saleh had already indicated that it was probably an injury to the Achilles tendon in his left leg.

Rodgers was the victim of a sack by Bills player Leonard Floyd and fell uncharacteristically to the field. He immediately grabbed his left leg, before being rescued by Jets sports therapists. He was then escorted to a cart towards the team locker room.

The former Green Bay Packers quarterback, who won the Super Bowl in 2011, underwent a magnetic resonance imaging test which came back negative. Another test carried out on Tuesday morning, however, confirmed the worst fears.

Zach Wilson replaced Rodgers at 3:45 of the first quarter and finished his night with 14 completions on 21 attempts for 140 yards, a touchdown pass to Garrett Wilson and an interception.

Wilson will therefore get the next start against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday – and possibly for the rest of the campaign.
