(Miami) Canadian tennis player Bianca Andreescu provided something of a medical update on Tuesday, announcing she was awaiting official test results after she suffered a lower left leg injury at the Open. from Miami.
The 22-year-old Mississauga, Ont., injured Monday night during the second set of her fourth-round match against Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova.
Andreescu was moving along the baseline when she fell to the playing surface and grabbed her visibly in pain lower left leg. After several minutes of lying on the court, she left the court seated in a wheelchair.

“I woke up with a splint on my foot…anyone know what happened? Seriously, this is the worst pain I’ve ever felt… I pray it’s not serious. I’m still waiting for the official results. Thank you all for your thoughts and kind words, it does not go unnoticed,” she said in a post on Twitter, along with a smiley of two hands held together in prayer.
Andreescu, the 2019 U.S. Open champion, came to Miami ranked 31st in the WTA rankings. Next Monday, at the ranking update, she could occupy the 27th place.
A message left with the agency representing Andreescu was not immediately returned.
