Canadian women’s soccer team coach Bev Priestman has selected University of Miami Hurricanes Quebec goalkeeper Mélissa Dagenais for friendly matches against Brazil later this month.
The student from Saint-Hubert signed the 13th shutout of her career on Saturday in the Hurricanes’ 0-0 draw against North Carolina State University. Dagenais made three saves to bring his U.S. college career total to 249 – the fourth-highest total in program history.
Dagenais will therefore join No. 1 goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan and her colleagues Sabrina D’Angelo and Lysianne Proulx in the 26-player squad who will take part in the matches on October 28 at Saputo Stadium and 31 at Wanderers Ground in Halifax.
Brazil is ranked ninth in the world, just ahead of Canada, the reigning Olympic champion. Both teams have already qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Among the experienced players who have been selected for these duels are captain Christine Sinclair, Kadeisha Buchanan, Jessie Fleming, Julia Grosso, Jordyn Huitema, Ashley Lawrence, Adriana Leon, Nichelle Prince, Shelina Zadorsky and Quinn, who only wears a only name.
Canada, led by the nets of Vanessa Gilles and Evelyne Viens, blanked Brazil 2-0 in their last clash, which took place in February in Nashville as part of the SheBelieves Cup.
