This Sunday, June 12 was held the first round of the legislative elections. The results were surprising in some constituencies and at the national level. On the left, supporters of the New People’s Ecological and Social Union are particularly satisfied with the results.
The coalition has indeed managed to place itself in the lead in terms of percentage of votes on the national territory. According to calculations made by Le Monde, Nupes won 26.10% of the ballots, against 25.81% for Together!.
On the side of the presidential majority, the victory is therefore intended to be slightly bitter even if the projections of seats still predict a clear advantage. The absolute majority is however not guaranteed and it is therefore an important week of campaigning which should mobilize both sides.
Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne has already set the tone. If she called for blocking the National Rally and the far right, she also castigated certain candidates from the union of the left.
“When we have Nupes candidates, if we are dealing with a candidate who does not respect republican values, who insults our police officers, who asks to no longer support Ukraine, who wants to leave Europe, then we don’t let’s not call to vote for him,” she said, as reported by FranceInfo.
Apart from the breakthrough of the Nupes, other unpleasant surprises have also affected the camp of Emmanuel Macron. Former Minister of National Education Jean-Michel Blanquer came in third position in the 4th constituency of Loiret where he was a candidate and was therefore not qualified. With 18.89% of the vote, he found himself behind Bruno Nottin (19.43%), Nupes candidate, and Thomas Ménagé of the National Rally (31.45%).
Following his defeat, the former minister declared: “I will make a legal appeal on this election because the candidate who passed in front of me with 180 votes, that is to say very few, violated several rules elections during the campaign,” reports Sud-Ouest.
