Kamal Miller in Miami for three more seasons

Europe will have to wait for Kamal Miller. The former CF Montreal player has just signed a three-year contract extension with Inter Miami, with an option for 2027.

The Canadian international had his mind elsewhere at the start of the season in the Quebec metropolis. His trade to Miami, which also included $1.3 million in general allocation money, allowed the CFM to receive Bryce Duke and Ariel Lassiter.

“Kamal has been a great addition to our team this season,” said Athletic Director Chris Henderson. He adapted very well to our defense, both with possession and without it. We know that Kamal still has development potential, and we are excited to continue working there with him. »

For his part, Miller emphasizes that he is “happy to extend his contract with the club”. “Since I was traded here in April, the fans have welcomed me and made me feel right at home. »

“It’s the right club for me, as they have the ambition to win everything. […] Things all seem to be falling into place and I’m happy to be a part of it. »

Kamal Miller quickly became a pillar of the Florida defense, despite the setbacks of Inter Miami before the arrival of Lionel Messi. The Canadian participated in 31 matches in all competitions and was an important cog in winning the League Cup in August 2023, even scoring in the final penalty shootout.

At 26, Miller is also an important representative for the men’s national team. He played every minute of Canada’s three games at the World Cup in Qatar, in addition to appearing in 38 games for the Reds’ senior team.

But this extension does not come without surprise: Kamal Miller has never hidden his ambitions as a player in Europe. Last year, he saw his Canadian and Montreal compatriots Ismaël Koné and Alistair Johnston head to the United Kingdom, while Djordje Mihailovic headed to the Netherlands.

After three years in the Montreal uniform, Miller undoubtedly hoped to cross the Atlantic too. A transfer to the Old Continent did not materialize, Inter Miami called, and today he has the chance to play with Lionel Messi.

Miami is now in 13th position, 4 points from the 9th and final place giving access to the playoffs. Everything is not yet decided with three matches remaining, but we have the impression that the state of health of Messi and Jordi Alba will tip the scales.

If the current sporting context does not necessarily allow us to aspire to great honors in MLS from 2023, the year 2024 will be promising for the Herons. What’s more, a handful of players had the chance to share the field in the same jersey as the Pulga. Why not enjoy it for as long as possible?

For CF Montreal, the news is a little less good. A future transfer of Kamal Miller to another club would have allowed the Bleu-blanc-noir to obtain a percentage of the amount paid to Miami. This potential gain in the Montreal piggy bank will have to wait.
