The captain of the Canadian women’s soccer team Christine Sinclair will conclude her international career by participating in two matches at home in December.
The Canadians, who are ranked 10th in the world, will face 11th-ranked Australia on December 1 at Starlight Stadium in Langford, British Columbia, before facing them again on the 5th at B. C. Place in Vancouver. The “Matildas”, the nickname of the Australian team, had abruptly slowed down the progress of the representatives of the maple leaf at the World Cup earlier this summer after having beaten them 4-0, relegating them to third place in the group B.
Sinclair announced last week that she would end her international career at the end of the year, but clarified that she will play one final campaign with her NWSL club, the Portland Thorns.
The 36-year-old, who is from Burnaby, British Columbia, and her Canadian teammates will play two friendlies against Brazil – first this Saturday at Saputo Stadium in Montreal, then on October 31 in Halifax. Sinclair is the top scorer in the history of women’s soccer, with 190 goals in 327 international appearances.
