(Washington) Seven-time Grand Slam winner Venus Williams will miss the WTA tournament in Cleveland next week due to a knee injury, she announced in a video on social media on Saturday.

“Unfortunately my knee is not working well,” Williams said. “He’s not allowing me to be on the pitch right now. It’s really unfortunate. »
She added that she wants to play next year in Cleveland, a sign that she plans to compete in the WTA season again in 2024.
“I’m going to work on myself, try to pull myself together, so I can make the US Open, and also hopefully come and play next year” in Cleveland, she said.
Williams received a bye to the Cleveland tournament as well as the US Open, where she will make her 17th appearance in the main draw.
Currently ranked 407th in the world, Venus Williams won the U.S. Open in 2000 and 2001 and won five Wimbledon titles, most recently in 2008.
