(Trenčín) Ryder Ritchie scored four goals and added an assist to guide Canada to a resounding 14-4 win over Slovakia on Tuesday at the Hlinka-Gretzky Cup.

“My teammates made great plays that led to every one of my goals tonight,” Ritchie said. It was a collective effort and a great way to bounce back, so I’m happy with our performance. We excelled offensively tonight. We played in a simple and fast way and if we can do the same tomorrow, I think we are in a good position. I trust the team. »

Canada, which lost 9-6 to Finland in the opener of the tournament on Monday, scored three unanswered goals to start the game.

Although Slovakia replied with two goals, the Maple Leaf representatives pulled away to take an 8-3 lead after 40 minutes of play. Canada then outscored their rivals 6-1 in goals in the final period.

Michael Misa had six points for Canada, including two goals. Twice Berkly Catton, Cayden Lindstrom, Justin Poirier, Roger McQueen, Carson Wetsch, Maxim Massé and Porter Martone also scored for Canada.

“Our team bounced back really well tonight,” Misa said. We got together, we worked hard and we accomplished our mission. It’s an honor to be selected as an underaged player and to have the opportunity to play with all these amazing players. Every time I wear the Team Canada jersey, it’s quite a privilege. »

Canadian goaltender Carter George scored the victory after saving 15 pucks.

Martin Tomas Pobezal had two goals for Slovakia, including a spectacular “Michigan” type, as Rudolf Liska and Adam Belusko both threaded the needle once in a losing cause.

In the rest of the day, the United States edged Sweden 6-1, Switzerland beat Finland 3-1 and Czech Republic beat Germany 6-2.
