(Toronto) Cavan Biggio broke the tie when hit by a shot in the eighth on Tuesday as the Toronto Blue Jays had the last laugh 2-1 against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Seranthony Dominguez (2-3) hit Biggio on the right foot.

“He’s got big feet and that’s a good thing,” Blue Jays manager John Schneider said, a little jokingly, a little serious.

George Springer had just hit a ground ball on which Alec Bohm relayed to home plate just in time to pull out Nathan Lukes.

Yusei Kikuchi and Zack Wheeler had a good battle.

Wheeler gave up one run and three hits in seven innings, recording five strikeouts.

Kikuchi allowed one run and four hits over six innings, striking out seven batters.

George Springer leveled the score with a timely single in the sixth.

Whit Merrifield started the team’s turn at bat with a single to the infield.

Brandon Belt drew a walk, then Merrifield advanced from a pad on a Vladimir Guerrero double play ball. Springer then hit to safety in center field.

Earlier in the set, Johan Rojas broke the 0-0 deadlock with a one-point double.

Yimi Garcia, Jordan Hicks (2-7) and Ontario’s Jordan Romano have not allowed a hit in three innings.

Returning to the game after back trouble, Romano made a 29th save, much to the delight of the 42,615 spectators. Romano had been away for 17 days.

Edmundo Sosa hit two singles for the Phillies, who were losing for the third straight time.

The Phillies’ first four batters have all been 0-for-4-it’s been that kind of night for Kyle Schwarber, Bohm, Bryce Harper and Nick Castellanos.

Harper and Castellanos were the last two strikeouts of the game. The first out of the ninth was a fly ball from Bohm to left field.

Romano is back, but Toronto is dealing with injuries to shortstop Bo Bichette (knee), outfielder Kevin Kiermaier (elbow) and reliever Trevor Richards (neck).

Wednesday night starting pitchers will be Aaron Nola (9-8) and Kevin Gausman (9-6).

Nola is 0-2 in his last four outings.
