Ora Medical shines in its industry. Indeed, the company founded in 2020 was crowned last year’s Rising Startup of the Year, a recognition awarded by MTL NewTech, and received the Women in Tech award last July at Startupfest in Montreal.

What earned him these honors?

The company designed a device to help children with mobility problems learn or relearn how to walk. After it was approved for sale by Health Canada, the company sold its first devices last April.

“I was working in rehabilitation and saw that children needed ongoing support, rather than having therapists every two to three weeks. So I decided to develop a device so that they can rehabilitate themselves every day,” says Sarah Lambert, co-founder and CEO of Ora Medical.

The task was colossal, but a doctor suggested he knock on the door of the TransMedTech Institute. Ora Medical followed his advice.

“Thanks to them, we were able to work with Laurent Ballaz and Abolfazl Mohebbi,” says Sarah Lambert. The first, an expert in biomechanics, helped the company design and test its device. The second, a professor specializing in robotics and biomedical engineering, instead supported her in the development of her artificial intelligence module, which collects data to improve treatment and deliver a prognosis.

As a result, Sarah Lambert recognizes, the Institute helped catalyze the development of her business. “We could not have developed our technology so quickly without their help. »

Ora Medical is just one of dozens of companies that have received support from the TransMedTech Institute.

The support offered by the organization is quite broad. For example, this helps companies to have their innovations approved and puts young start-ups in contact with experts in the field. The Institute also makes significant efforts in terms of knowledge development, notably by organizing networking events, round tables and conferences.

And it intends to continue to carry out its mission of supporting the development of the next generation of medical technologies.

“We are currently developing our business plan for the next seven years, so we do not have precise figures relating to our objectives,” says the executive director. But one thing is certain, we want to have at least a similar impact. Our sights won’t get any smaller! »
