Ex-NBA player sentenced to prison for health insurance scam

(New York) Former NBA basketball player Terrence Williams was sentenced to ten years in prison on Thursday for organizing a scheme to defraud the League’s health insurance, New York justice announced.

The 36-year-old former New Jersey and Houston player pleaded guilty in August 2022.

“Williams not only lined his own pockets through fraud and deception, but he also stole other people’s identities and threatened a witness in order to carry out his criminal activities,” prosecutor Damian Williams said in a statement. a statement.

Terrence Williams was one of 18 former basketball players charged with participating in the scam that cost insurance at least $5 million between 2017 and 2021.

The justice accused him in particular of having made false declarations for medical and dental care that had never been provided.

Among the accused are Glen Davis and Tony Allen, NBA champion with Boston in 2008, former Lakers Shannon Brown and ex-Clippers Darius Miles.
