(Berea) Quarterback Deshaun Watson will not be in uniform for the Cleveland Browns game this week due to a lingering right shoulder injury.
Coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed that P.J. Walker will get the start in relief of Watson on Sunday when the Browns (4-2) visit the Seahawks (4-2) in Seattle. Stefanski announced the news Wednesday and added that Watson would not practice this week to focus on his rehabilitation.
Watson got the start last week against the Indianapolis Colts, but left the game after just 12 plays. Stefanski said Watson did not aggravate his injury, originally suffered Sept. 27 against the Tennessee Titans.
Stefanski also added that Watson is dealing with “residual inflammation” in his shoulder. He indicated that there was no question of the quarterback having surgery.
Replacing Watson, Walker helped the Browns beat the San Francisco 49ers and Colts.
