(Toronto) Canadian payment processing company Moneris says credit and debit card transactions were disrupted by a network outage reported earlier on Saturday.

The Toronto-based technology company released a statement saying there was nothing to suggest the outage was linked to a cyberattack.

Complaints about the outages began pouring in on the website Downdetector.ca in the morning, but Moneris did not say when the outage began.

About three hours later, Moneris posted a message on X, claiming to have resolved the network issue.

It is currently impossible to know how many businesses and transactions have been affected, but data provided by Downdetector.ca indicates that complaints have come in from across the country.

In a statement provided to The Canadian Press, the company said the outage lasted approximately 90 minutes.

“We have resolved the network outage and returned transaction processing to normal,” the statement said. We continue to investigate the root cause of the issue. There is no indication that this appears to be linked to a cyber attack and all transaction systems are now functioning normally again. »

Moneris, a joint venture between Royal Bank and BMO Bank of Montreal, said transaction processing could be slow as its systems resume operations.

Moneris claims to serve more than 325,000 merchants across Canada.
