(Calgary) The International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) has removed the men’s downhill at Lake Louise from its tentative schedule for next season.

The FIS had originally put the Nov. 22-26 event on its calendar with a “to be confirmed” note. However, Alpine Canada announced on Friday that the federation had run out of time to secure the necessary funds for the presentation of the races.

Alpine Canada President and CEO Thérèse Brisson said the organization remains committed to bringing a speed event to Western Canada and is looking for solutions for the 2024-25 season.

The stop at Lake Louise traditionally marked the start of the men’s speed season. The Lake Louise downhill, however, would have been the second speed event this season if it had taken place.

Alpine Canada has already replaced the traditional Lake Louise women’s downhill, usually presented the week after the men’s downhill, with the presentation of two giant slalom events in Mont-Tremblant, on December 2 and 3. The presentation of these races has been confirmed.
