Quebecer Abraham Toro marked his return to the Major Leagues on Wednesday by scoring the eventual game-winning point in a key 3-0 win by the Milwaukee Brewers against the Cincinnati Reds.

In his first game with the Brewers since June 11, Toro sparked a seventh-inning two-run drive by hitting a single to right field after an out against Reds starter Ben Lively.

Tyrone Taylor followed by hitting his second homer of the season, a slap to left field that sent Toro home and put the Brewers up 2-0.

The Brewers added a run in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Inserted in the sixth row of the batting list and called to play at first base, Toro completed his day of work with a hit in three at bats and a run scored. He gave up his place on defense to Owen Miller at the start of the eighth inning.

The win extended the Brewers (57-46) lead to a game and a half over the Reds (56-48) at the top of the National League Central standings.

Off Thursday, the Brewers will kick off a three-game series on Friday by visiting the Atlanta Braves (64-36), the team with the best record in major league baseball.

Toro, a 26-year-old from Longueuil, spent most of the season with Nashville at the AAA level.

At the time of his recall, he had a .288 batting average in 70 games and 260 at-bats with 25 doubles, six home runs and 44 RBIs with the Brewers’ main farm club.

At the major league level, Toro has only appeared in six games this season, but he has managed to get five hits in 11 visits to the plate for a .455 batting average. He homered and scored five runs.

In his career, Toro has played 268 major league games with the Houston Astros, Seattle Mariners and Brewers. His GPA is .210 and he has 27 home runs.
