The shortage of skilled workers: More men in Kitas!

Despite funding programmes men are in the German day-care centres and in day care is still the exception. Nationwide, almost 36,000 male educators took care of it in the year 2018 to kindergarten children– this corresponds to a share of 6.1 percent, according to the Federal statistical office.

The Ministry of family Affairs, according to the still low number in the Ten-year comparison (2017 to 2007) but about tripled. In the day-care across Germany, there are around 1,600 men worked– a rate of 3.8 percent.

With the programs, the Federal government and the countries have been trying for years to attract male talent for the educator profession or career. Not only because of the shortage of skilled workers, more men in day-care centres would be, and as the days of the fathers used, it means from the Ministry: “children in day-care facilities, where women only are employed, and learn that upbringing, care and education– in other words, what “care” means– woman’s work.”

An educator-to make training, however, is not only for men – from a financial point of not always attractive: unlike most other training educators, teaching usually takes a total of five years. Often, the prospective educator will receive only in the last year of training compensation. In the other years of the apprenticeship a school is, however, sometimes, even to pay money.

With a Skilled worker campaign to change the Federal government do something about it, and the educator-training to make it more attractive. Minister for the family, Franziska Giffey wants to pay countries for hundreds of millions of euros, and, among other things, the training of the technical schools in the future to be remunerated.
