NHL Player Assistance Program | Avalanche defenseman Samuel Girard will return to action Sunday

(Denver) Avalanche defenseman Samuel Girard will play his first game since completing the NHL Player Assistance Program and the NHLPA on Sunday, when the San Jose Sharks visit Colorado.

Girard played his last game on November 18. He sought help for severe anxiety and depression that led to alcohol abuse on November 24, and was given the green light to return to training on December 22.

The Quebecer indicated on Saturday that he “obviously needed this” and thanked everyone for their support.

“I’m excited to have done it and I’m excited to be back,” he said. I am a new person. I feel more alive rather than hiding all this in my head and my body. I feel good. »

The 25-year-old from Roberval is currently playing his seventh full season in the NHL.
