The Detroit Red Wings power play struck three times on Saturday in a 5-2 win over the Ottawa Senators at the Canadian Tire Centre.

Shayne Gostisbehere, in first, David Perron, in second, and Dylan Larkin, in third, hit the target with an extra player for the visitors, who took advantage of five sequences on the power play.

Larkin added two assists to finish the game with three points.

The Red Wings have totaled nine goals in 18 power play opportunities since the start of the campaign. After losing their very first match, they have won their last four. This is also a first victory for the Michigan club in Ottawa since February 2, 2019.

The Red Wings can thank the Senators for their indiscipline since the team from the Canadian capital largely dominated the first two periods. She had a 28-11 advantage in shots on goal heading into the final third.

Ville Husso had his best statistical game of the campaign, blocking 35 of the 37 pucks he faced. Jake Sanderson and Ridly Greig were the only players to deceive his vigilance.

At the other end of the ice, Joonas Korpisalo gave up five times on 23 shots. Joe Veleno thwarted him twice on a numerical tie.

The Senators suffered a second defeat in five outings, but a first in front of their fans. They will return to action on Tuesday when they host the Buffalo Sabres. The Red Wings will host a visit from the Calgary Flames on Sunday.

Clayton Keller and Jason Zucker found the back of the net, goaltender Karel Vejmelka blocked 29 shots and the Arizona Coyotes opened their home schedule Saturday with a 2-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks.

The Coyotes (3-2) have won three of their first five games of a campaign for the first time since the 2015-16 season, when they won their first three meetings. Additionally, they triumphed in their inaugural home game for the first time since the 2016-17 season.

Frank Vatrano deflected a lateral pass from Jakob Silfverberg for his fourth goal of the season, during a power play, at 7:47 of the third period. This goal allowed the Ducks to cut the Coyotes’ lead in half.

With two minutes remaining, the Ducks removed goaltender Lukas Dostal in favor of a sixth skater. However, they were unable to find the back of the net and force an additional period.

Keller scored the eventual game-winner at 14:01 of the middle period with a wrist shot from the top of the right faceoff circle. The Coyotes spent nearly a minute controlling the puck in enemy territory before Keller hits the target, during a delayed penalty.

Zucker opened the scoring with a wrist shot that went under Dostal’s glove with 2:19 left in the first period, nine seconds after the start of a power play.

In the loss, Dostal made 25 saves.
