A television adaptation of Zakiya Dalila Harris’ 2021 novel, this suspense series tells the story of Nella (Sinclair Daniel), an editorial assistant who discovers sinister things about the company she works for when a second wife black arrives there and begins to climb the ladder. Made up of 10 episodes of 30 minutes each, The Other Black Girl grabs attention from the outset by tackling current issues. In the second episode, we even talk about “sensitivity reading”, a literary practice that has been making headlines for several weeks, due to the prestigious selections that Quebec author Kevin Lambert has garnered with Que notre joie remain.

After a long forced leave due to a certain Hollywood writers’ strike, late night talk shows are returning to the air this week. Jimmy Fallon (The Tonight Show), Seth Meyers (Late Night), Jimmy Kimmel (Jimmy Kimmel Live!) and Stephen Colbert (The Late Show) are set to return to action on Monday. We will be particularly attentive to the return of Jimmy Fallon, who was recently the subject of an article in Rolling Stone magazine in which employees accused him of having created a toxic work climate. Will the host address the controversy on air? Nobody knows. One thing is certain, with the actors’ strike still in full swing, few of them will participate in the shows.

For one month, FIFA is offering several short, medium and feature-length Canadian films dealing with music, dance, painting, architecture and other artistic disciplines free of charge on ARTS.FILMS, its online streaming viewing platform. . A selection of 18 works, notably featuring Pascale Bussières, Emmanuel Schwartz, Luc Durand, Mary Pratt and Emily Carr, is offered. Among the titles offered in French or with French subtitles, we include Enracinée by Annie Leclair (photo), Fondations by Olivier D. Asselin, Jaeborn, number by number by Roger Gariépy, Mama by Xavier Curnillon, and We Are Not Speaking the Same Language by Danika St-Laurent.

France Beaudoin’s “other” show reaches an important milestone this week: the 100th. To mark the occasion, the host and producer invited seven guests with either family or friendship ties, sometimes both: Boucar Diouf and her teenagers, Joellie and Anthony; Michel Tremblay and Simon Boulerice, two friends and mentors; and Sylvie Léonard and Camille, her daughter. The conversation will revolve around a favorite theme of the weekly meeting: the transmission of words. For its part, Live from the Universe crossed the 100 hour mark a long time ago. The great musical celebration continues its 15th season this fall.
