NFL | 49ers beat Giants 30-12

(Santa Clara) Christian McCaffrey scored a touchdown in a 12th straight game and the San Francisco 49ers defeated the New York Giants by a score of 30-12 on Thursday night.

Brock Purdy threw two touchdown passes for the 49ers, who posted their 13th straight season victory.

The California squad wasn’t that effective on offense in their home opener, but they got enough help from McCaffrey, receiver Deebo Samuel and slotback George Kittle to start the game. season with three wins in a row for the second time in 25 seasons.

The defense did the rest of the work against the Giants (1-2), who trailed by 10 or more points at halftime for the third time in as many outings this season.

With the ground game deprived of star running back Saquon Barkley and the offensive line at a disadvantage in the absence of left tackle Andrew Thomas and left guard Ben Bredeson, the Giants struggled difficulty moving the ball forward. They concluded the clash with 150 yards of offense.

They made two field goals in the first half and added a touchdown in the third quarter, following an eight-yard run by Matt Breida.

Giants quarterback Daniel Jones often had to escape pressure from the 49ers and was unable to complete long passes. He saw 22 of his 32 attempts through the air caught for gains of 137 yards, with one interception.

Purdy had 310 passing yards and threw a nine-yard touchdown pass to Ronnie Bell in the first half and a 27-yard touchdown pass to Samuel in the fourth quarter. He is 8-0 as a starter this season and has avoided potential turnovers by throwing short passes to his receivers, who converted them into long gains.

McCaffrey had 85 rushing yards and 34 receiving yards, scoring a four-yard touchdown run that gave the 49ers a 17-3 lead in the second quarter. He tied Jerry Rice’s team record and is just three games shy of the NFL record.
